A few days ago, my friend and I joked about beginning an "Enjoying College Initiative", hereon referred to as the ECI. The premise was to plan more fun activities to pepper into our busy, work-filled days. Now, however, I see the ECI going in a different direction. Anyone who knows me well would agree that I am not by nature a joyful person. I am prone to fits of melancholy and feel too infrequently that surge of excitement that bubbles up from deep within to add color to otherwise ordinary days. I've always been attracted to choosing joy, but never felt that I possessed the ability to go around doing so.
Until now.
Here is the newfangled ECI: to be grateful for the day. Each day for the next month I will spend a few moments reflecting on the things I am thankful for, and will record them here. Paul was kind of mysterious when he said "I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances." So here's my stab at attaining contentment - to remember how beautiful this life God has given us really is. Because even when we get bogged down in all the things we find displeasing, there are still so many great and wonderful things. We just tend to look over them.
So without further ado, I am pleased to welcome you to Walking on Air Wednesday.
Thank you Lord for autumn air, no class til 2:00 (and only a film screening at that!), the excitement of planning a trip, and morning walks.
